We took our son on a drive through the wildlife refuge yesterday and had a chance to see quite a few birds. We happened upon a Green Heron and we were able to get some nice closeup shots of it. I haven't been able to get this close previously.
This Great Blue Heron was almost too far away to get a clear photo, even with my longer lens. But, I love their beautiful mating plumage so much that I wanted to share the photo, anyway!
This one came flying overhead and was so close that I couldn't get his whole body in the pic. An adult will have a 5 1/2 to 6 1/2 foot wingspan!
This Double-Crested Cormorant below was swimming back and forth in front of us. I love their turquoise eyes!
I love this look!! Many captions could be put to it!
The Reddish Egret below was doing his normal dance routine of running here and there, trying to find lunch! They use their wings to create a canopy to reduce the glare and find their prey!
This was pretty much the only Roseate Spoonbill we were close enough to photograph.
This juvenile Yellow-Crowned Night Heron was sitting on a branch very near where we were standing.
The Anhinga below flew over for a quick pic!
A quick trip to the beach and we only got one bird photo, but he posed for us!
The bougainvillea here are so beautiful this time of year.
